Zimmer Frames
The aged and invalid fill the ship, making up a disturbing proportion of the passengers aboard, and given the time of year this isn’t even them out in force.
Something about the novelty of the boat, the ease of travel, and the crew waiting on them every waking moment brings them out in droves and sets them afloat amongst the rest of us. Walking canes and zimmer frames are in this season, at least there’s not many riding on carts this time.
The crew will do everything within their power to make life as comfortable as possible for those unable to do things for themselves. Guide them round the ship, explain things to them, carry their plate at the buffet, explain to them where they are, get them off the stairs before they hurt themselves and into the elevator. I don’t care if you can walk with your zimmer frame, the stairs are not the place for you ma’am.
The care these retired corpses get seems to be much better than could be expected in most aged care facilities, coupled with the quality of the medical care on board it’s little wonder that they take to the boats to get out and about. Even in the closet cabins downstairs you will find them 2-4 to a room doing their 5th or 6th cruise.
They have such tales to tell of the places they have been shown, the people they have been introduced to, the things they have had done for them, the happiness they can exude is contagious. There are far worse ways to spend your twilight years then being waited on round the clock and your every nonsensical desire satisfied. There will even be a handy crew member available nearby to listen to you reminisce about your youth and how it was back in your day, or that cruise you took in the 80’s. My heart goes out to the crew for what they would have to endure and take care of, truly above and beyond the call of duty.
